   What is? Pipe Rack

These structures are usually concrete, steel, or a combination of the two, and generally support pipes, power cables, and tool cable racks in power plants, petrochemicals, chemical industries, and refineries. Pipe racks may also support mechanical equipment and access platforms. These structures are referred to as pipe supports.

How to arrange the equipment around the pipe rack

In designing the equipment arrangement around the pipe rack, the equipment should be placed parallel to the pipe rack, but the horizontal equipment is perpendicular to it. The required distances are as follows:
– The minimum distance between the beginning of the equipment and the pipe bed to The title of an aisle (Aisle Way) should be equal to 2300 mm, which is the distance of personnel traffic.
Pipes that go to the equipment through the pipe rack must be above 2200 mm so that they are not clogged.
– The minimum access path distance between the equipment is considered 1000 mm if the operator needs to pass through.
– The minimum distance of the Access Way between the equipment and the operator is not 760 mm or 600 mm.
– For equipment that due to safety issues or lack of efficiency should not be installed near each other or at least the distance between them should be greater than the value of the access way mentioned in the above two items, should be attached to Appendix A of the IPS-E standard. Refer to Pr-190 to determine the distance.
– The area of the equipment where the piping nozzles are placed (piping side) should be towards the pipe rack.
– Pumps should be placed under the pipe bed in such a way that their suction head is connected to the equipment to minimize the amount of piping.
– Next to the pipe bed, the road must be considered, the distance between the road and the first equipment is at least 3 meters.

Design requirements

  • The design of the structural skeleton must be based on the AISC standard or regulations derived from it. The use of plastic design method provided in this standard for structural skeleton design is not allowed.
  • The structure and foundation should be designed for maximum loads during operation. The effects of contraction and expansion of the skeleton and equipment must also be considered.
  • The foundation must be designed according to ACI 318 standard. Also, the minimum acceptable concrete grade for C40 foundation is this resistance, which should also be mentioned in the executive plans.
